CANCELLED - Quilt Coat Workshop - May 3 & 17 10 AM to 2 PM

This product is discontinued.

Description

Quilt coat extraordinaries - Kathleen Hollingsworth and Leigh Ann Kloefkorn - will be in the studio for a 2 day workshop to help you sew up your very first quilt coat. During the workshop you will construct your very own quilt coat using the Patchwork & Poodles Patchwork Chore Coat pattern (pattern included with the class). Kathleen and Leigh Ann will help you fit and add professional finishes to your coat so that it can be treasured for years to come.

Supply list:

1. Sewing machine in good working order. A walking foot or equivalent would be helpful, but not necessary.
2. Piecing and quilting thread to match the outer coat fabric—50-weight cotton suggested.
3. Thread to match binding
4. Pins, snips, bobbins, hand-sewing needles, seam ripper, tape measure, water-soluble marker, scotch tape
5. ½” or ¾” bias tape maker—very useful, but not required
6. Notebook, pen/pencil, and rulers for notetaking and pattern tracing
7. Fabric for the outer coat (if making a whole cloth quilted coat) and coordinating fabric for the lining (also known as the backing) and binding (you could use packaged double-fold bias tape). (If you prefer to use purchased double-fold bias tape instead of making your own binding). You may also use a patchwork top for the outside--vintage or new. There are several examples of patchwork here: https://patchworkandpoodles.com/category/quilt-coat/.
8. Batting—we recommend a thin one for a better drape (Quilter’s Dream Bamboo, Hobbs Tuscany Silk Blend, a thin wool or blend, and others on the market made from 100% bamboo or a cotton bamboo blend). You could also use flannel for a very lightweight coat.
9. Muslin or “ugly” fabric for making a toile to determine coat size and any alterations, if needed. A pre-quilted fabric will be thicker and mimic the quilted fabric more closely. However, the pattern is pretty true to size.
10. Five 1 to 1 1/2” buttons and/or large snaps
11. 1 yard ½” twill tape or binding to cover the collar seam
12. 2 1/2 yards Pellon 830 Easy Pattern for tracing pattern
13. Snacks—we will be working through lunchtime, so bring a snack or lunch.

Not sure if you are up for the task? Join us for a Quilt Coat Trunk Show on April 12, 1-2:30PM where the teachers will be on hand showing many examples of quilted coats and answering any questions about their upcoming workshop. Click here to sign up!
