I work a lot. Morning, noon, and night some would say. Running a fabric shop is not for the faint of heart. I’m not complaining, but I felt it needed to be said as I dive into the rest of this post. It’s about this…
I’m sure you’re assuming that as a shop owner, my own personal stash of fabric has grown to astronomical proportions. I totally thought that was going to happen too, but for some reason it really hasn’t. The fact is that I just don’t have that much time to sew, and I already have a hefty stash to use up. Oh sure, there is the occasional print that I will cut and cut and cut for my customers until there is only 1-2 yards left and then I start to get all itchy and sad as separation anxiety sets in. So I’ll decide to delist it, take it off the bolt, fold it up and stash it under the cutting table in hopes that one day I will have time to sew again. It’s a relatively small pile…I swear! I send out bigger stacks to you fine people every day.
So that picture above…that’s Constellations from Lizzy House. I’ve been cutting a lot of it recently. I like it. A LOT! Today I was considering stashing the entire fat quarter bundle into my little personal cubby, but I stopped and thought, nah…when and what would I possibly do with it. And then I thought of this…

This is Castle Peeps (I typed Castle Pees at first : ) and 1001 Peeps also designed by Lizzy House. This came out just as I was discovering all the cool modern fabric that was out there. I lusted after it. I wanted it ALL. But I denied myself most because what would I possibly do with all of it. I didn’t realize the power of the fabric.
I immediately dropped the rotary cutter, ran to the computer and for probably the fiftieth time since it stopped being readily available, began frantically searching the interwebs for the last remaining full collection bundle of these prints. When I finally came to, I realized that if I didn’t act now, I would be doing the same thing in a few months with Constellations. So I said whatever and stashed it and man it felt *SO* good. True story.
In other news, I recently surpassed the 1000 likers mark on Facebook (thanks to all who made it possible!) and threw the idea of a giveaway out there. Since then I have been too busy to tell you this amazing story and follow through with an actual giveaway. So I will make up for it now.
Leave me a comment and let me know what collection(s) you have missed out on that you kick yourself regularly over (you know, so I don’t feel like a loser for this) and be entered to win a $25 gift certificate to my shop so you can pick yourself out something you’ve been lusting after! You can subscribe to my newsletter right over there in the side bar under the shop link and leave another comment stating you did so to get an additional entry. Do it because you want to, not [just] for the loot!
I will randomly select a winner at 10PM EST next Wednesday January 23rd!!
I seriously love this line of work I’ve found myself in. It’s the perfect blend of business and beauty. Looking forward to “meeting” the next 1000 fans.
